SHERIDAN MERCHANTS JO ANN BOYD SCOTT My favorite store was the STEVENS AND FRYBERGER NEW YORK STORE. Remember the shoe x-ray? You could put your feet in there, a green light showed the
bones of your feet. A little radioactive to say the least! Henry Stevens was my grandfather and Dad's partner in the ranching business in Montana. He was not only a partner but one of the kindest and best
friends possible. I can still see him sitting at his desk in the balcony of the store as I merrily climbed all those steps as a toddler. How many of you remember the cashier system? The clerk on the main floor or
upstairs would write up your purchase, put it in a basket, pull a cord and away it would go to the balcony. Cashiers or bookkeepers would then make change and send it back.My aunt, Mary Anna Boyd McGovern worked as a
cashier there before she was married in 1935.
Remember the elevator with a real person running the elevator? How many elevators work that way now? As a little girl growing up
on a ranch, that was my favorite stop in Sheridan.Jo Ann Boyd Scott
