Ann Garbutt Ryan of Ft Collins, Colorado died from an extended illness on May 11, 2024.
Ann was born in 1934, grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming, a town founded by her great-grandfather John D. Loucks. Her father, Judge Philip S. Garbutt and mother, Violet Cermak Garbutt raised Ann along with her twin sister Beth and her older sister Nancy. She attended Sheridan schools and was her high school Homecoming Queen in 1952. She attended Sheridan College and went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming with a degree in fine art. She married a fellow student, Alfred Johnson. She was skilled at cartooning and designing cards. Holidays and birthdays were special because you could always expect a hand drawn card from Ann. She was an amateur historian and wrote a book based on historical letters of extended family members. She enjoyed travels in Europe and India and went rafting down the Colorado River, she enjoyed playing bridge and cooking and the family cabin in Story, Wyoming and her dog Stella. She enjoyed her friends and her Terry Shores neighborhood and her neighbors.
Ann was preceded in death by her second husband Ray Ryan and her first husband Alfred Johnson as well as her sister Nancy Newton.
She is survived by her twin sister and best friend, Beth Garbutt-Bredehoeft of Sausalito, California and by her three children: Brad Johnson of Allston Spa, NY, Eric Johnson of Greeley, CO and Beth Lin Johnson of Aurora, CO as well as grandsons Kit Johnson of Chengdu, China and Evan Johnson of Denver.
