Bonnie Marie REED Schreibeus 1930 - 2025 SHS 1947

Bonnie Marie Schreibeis, 95, of Worland, Wyoming, was taken to her heavenly home on March 21, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi), sister, friend, and an active community member. Her strong faith and caring spirit were a light to others during her long life.

Fireworks lit up on January 1, 1930, when Bonnie was born in Denton, Montana, to Edith (Shrader) and George Perry Reed. Bonnie lived in Denton until the age of 10 before moving to Sheridan, Wyoming, where she was active in 4-H, became an excellent roller skater, and met the love of her life.

Bonnie's love story began her senior year in the "lost and found" room at Sheridan High School. As members of the Honor Society, whose responsibility it was to measure seniors for graduation, she and Gene Schreibeis happened to volunteer during the same study hall period and were instantly attracted to each other. Their courtship centered around two dates a week, one on Wednesday when Gene was in Sheridan to attend college classes, and the other on Saturday when they often went square dancing at a nearby community hall.

After graduating from high school in 1947, Bonnie attended business college in Denver and then returned to Sheridan. She and Gene were married on September 4, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Laramie where Bonnie helped support them while Gene finished his schooling. They resided in married student housing known as the "Butler Huts." Their journey then continued across Wyoming to Torrington, Wheatland, and Powell, bringing them to Worland in 1960, where they put down roots. In 1963, Bonnie and Gene purchased their forever home and acreage in Worland, where she would remain until her passing. Bonnie and Gene shared over 72 cherished years together. Family was the center of Bonnie and Gene's world, and they treasured attending all their children's and grandchildren's sporting events, graduations, and other important life moments.

Bonnie began working in medical records at the Worland Hospital in 1966 and became an Accredited Records Technician. Her skill in shorthand proved to be invaluable as she took notes for doctors, and she also took pride in helping to research and recruit doctors to the area. After retirement, she remained an integral part of the hospital auxiliary, recording minutes, helping with fundraising projects, and dedicating hours and hours of sewing tummy and neck pillows plus burps and bibs to be given to patients and newborns. She often recruited family members to help with the sewing, and there were times when the family gathered together for pillow-stuffing parties. She also volunteered in the hospital gift shop well into her 90s.

Bonnie was deeply involved in her community. She served as a 4-H leader for many years, teaching her own children and many others how to cook, sew, and crochet. County fair was a big event in her life where she volunteered in helping wherever needed in addition to entering a great variety of exhibits and encouraging others to do so as well. She was a strong supporter of the county extension office, the senior center, as well as being a charter member of the Washakie Museum, attending as many of the special events of these organizations as she could. She was a dedicated member of the Wyoming Homemakers Association for 73 years and was honored as a Quealy member. Bonnie's passion for homemaking extended to starting numerous homemakers' clubs in the towns where she lived. One of her favorite projects, in which she served as a principal organizer, was the Washakie County Homemakers' annual Hobby Day, which helped promote crafts and hobbies in Worland and nearby communities.

After being baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran on January 29, 1950, she remained a dedicated member of the Lutheran Church. As an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, she participated in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) and Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL), taught Sunday school, helped with vacation bible school, and maintained the Christian Living Resource Center. Bonnie brightened the lives of family, friends, and every member of her church each year by sending birthday and anniversary cards, sharing her love and faith in a meaningful ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Gene, daughter Christine Marie, brothers Bill and Howard Reed, and sons-in-law Michael Neal and Wayne Nelson.

Bonnie is survived by her children: Ronald (Valerie) Schreibeis of Jackson, Wyoming; Teresa Neal of Sheridan, Wyoming; Sonya (Martin) Berg of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Nina Nelson of Worland; and Yvonna (Douglas) Shryack of Sheridan; her brother Walter (Sandra) Reed of Texas; her sister Donna Jacobs of Buffalo, Wyoming; as well as her grandchildren: Sabrina (Zac) Schreibeis Seipel, Veronica (Jason) Schreibeis Smith, Ryan (Lauren) Schreibeis, Ariela Schreibeis (Michael Rose), Rianna (Thomas) Hill, Dakota Berg, Warren Berg, Stevie Falcon (Joseph Fioranelli), Bodhi Nelson, and Levi Shryack; and great-grandchildren: Aurelius, Laelia, Isadora, Evalette, Desmond, June, Beauden Gene, John Michael, Anna Marie, Emma Rose, Idalia, and Annunziata.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Worland, Wyoming, with a visitation one hour prior. A graveside service will be held at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery in Sheridan, Wyoming, Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 9 AM.
