Robert V. Thompson, 91, of Big Piney passed away March 9th, 2015. He was a long-time cattle rancher, businessman, and owner of the Cross Lazy Two ranch.
Born in Sheridan, Wyoming to Buggs and Pauline Thompson, Bob graduated from Sheridan High School. Taking a break from college, he served as a U.S. Navy skipper in the Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming where he also played on the Cowboys basketball team.
Bob met Bette Mae Mickelson while attending the University of Wyoming. They were married in 1947 in Big Piney where they would later reside with their sons.
Bob served on administrative boards for many local and regional organizations. These include, among others, Wyoming Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Utah Power & Light, and Sublette County School District #9. He later served the state as a commissioner of the Wyoming Highway Department.
Bob lost Bette, his beloved wife of 45 years in 1992. He later married Tharon Greenwood, with whom he travelled the world before settling in Pinedale. He was known for a caring personality, kindness, and a sense of humor which he maintained throughout his years.
Bob is survived by his wife Tharon, sons Robert Scott, Jon Peter, and Timothy Stewart, their wives, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Big Piney on March 13.
