SHERIDAN - Private family committal will be held for Sheridan resident Elmo F. Harris, 81, who died Sept. 9, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Center in Sheridan.  Cremation has taken place.

Born Feb. 21, 1921, in Sheridan, he was the son of Frank and Maude (Filmore) Harris; was raised and educated in Sheridan; and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He worked on the railroad until enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.  He received a Purple Heart and other commendations.

After the service, he moved to California and married Beatrice Eib.

He worked as a truck driver until returning to Sheridan in 1963, where he worked for a lumber company until retirement.

His interests included fishing, hunting, reading, and working on old cars.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Durand of Hoodsport, Wash., and Linda Halliday of Lacey, Wash.; companion, Orel Robbins of Sheridan, stepson, Frank Robbins of Dayton; three stepdaughters, Donna Wilson of Sheridan, Bertha Cox of Gillette and Carmen Kwolek of Munhall, Pa.; sister, Ferne Willey of Ellensburg, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Frank; and four sisters, Merle Shreve, Molly Frye, Ruth Harris and Effie Holman.
